‘You Shall Have No Other Gods Before Me’: Officials Remove First of Ten Commandments Because It Challenges the Power of the President

The First Commandment reads: “You shall have no other gods before me, says the Lord.” Chinese government officials have ordered the removal of a church display which contained the First Commandment because they believe it directly contradicts the policy of President Xi Jinping, as reported by Prophecy in the News.

The government-approved Three-Self Church was forced to remove the First Commandment after a visit from the central “patrol inspection team” of Luoyang city and Luoning county United Front Work Department.

According to Bitter Winter, a website that reports on religious liberty and human rights issues in China, an official who was inspecting the church premises stopped abruptly before the pulpit and ordered that the First Commandment “must be removed.”

After the action was ordered, government officials immediately wiped off the commandment, according to the outlet.

The leader of Three-Self Church made a robust protestation against the removal, but was quickly rebuked by the government officials.

“Xi Jinping opposes this statement,” an official said. “Who dares not to cooperate? If anyone doesn’t agree, they are fighting against the country.”

The official also warned the church: “This is a national policy. You should have a clear understanding of the situation. Don’t go against the government.”

Church members were outraged by the censorship of their most sacred commandments, noting that this was not the first time government officials had sought to repress their religious expression.

The removal of crosses and this incident, in addition to arrests of more than 100 believers and last month’s closures of the Early Rain Covenant Church in Chengdu and the Rongguili Church in the port city of Guangzhou–both prominent underground house churches in China–continues to signal significant change for China’s Christians and churches in 2019, states Open Doors USA.

Not since China’s Cultural Revolution led by Mao Zedong has the church in China seen this level of persecution. Last year, the state banned sales of the Bible, introduced a new version of the Bible revised by the Chinese Communist Party and required that “core socialist values” be taught as doctrine in all churches, states Open Doors USA.

“The situation in China is likely to continue to escalate as the Chinese Communist Party increases its power and focuses on Chinese nationalism,” says Open Doors CEO David Curry.

“There will be even more pressure on the Body of Christ in China,” Curry continued. ”The government is trying to force out unregistered churches. Those churches that are registered, they approve sermons, these kinds of things, slowly turning up the heat and making it a ‘Chinese’ church, not a church of Jesus.” (Read More)

Unless the Pulpits rise up and stand up to preach, teach, and combat against the creeping evil such as legislation being pushed forth to criminalize Christianity, babies legally murdered at birth – aka infanticide, ubiquitous halal meats sold to the public at large unknowingly that are forbidden by the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Christians, public schools and businesses widely adopting and mandating unconstitutional events such as ‘National Hajib Day‘ for all to forcibly participate it, and too many more aberrations to list here …

But for the brave few standing up against the evils within our nation, it’s just Crickets chirping.

Our country is already unrecognizable of its former self that we once were so proud of for its freedoms, liberty, and Godly righteousness.

It’s time to stand up, man up, claim back ground lost to the evil, and get in your prayer closets while we still can, before it’s too late. Because we’re nearly there.
